The Paris Agreement on climate change might be cynically described as “Dead Man Walking,” given the U.S. administration’s reticence bordering on open hostility. Some foresee a gloom-and-doom scenario as the inevitable consequence — economic and social disruptions caused by violent weather patterns as the new norm for the U.S. and the globe.

Just recently, an analysis published in the journal Science reported ocean temperatures are rising at unprecedented rates in recorded history. The recent Green New Deal proposal led by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is a well-intentioned but flawed attempt to energize the Paris Agreement. However, the prospects for a climate wellness initiative are real, achievable and admittedly complicated. Furthermore, there are compelling reasons why an industry-led initiative might well be the game-changer we urgently need.
